Christopher Vellturo, Ph.D.
President/Manager

Dr. Vellturo received a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has worked in microeconomic consulting for twenty years. During this time, Dr. Vellturo has performed economic analyses in over 400 projects, across a wide range of industries. August Baker, Ph.D.
Principal

August Baker has an undergraduate degree from Columbia University and a Ph.D. degree in Economics from MIT. He has worked in economic consulting since 1994 and joined QES in 2007. Gus has expertise in applied microeconomics, including corporate finance and econometrics. Much of his work has consisted of applying economics to help resolve complex commercial disputes. He has worked on a variety of different types of disputes, including patent-infringement, antitrust, ERISA, and the taxation of tax-advantaged transactions. (Curriculum Vitae)

Laura Phillips Perkins
Principal

Ms. Perkins specializes in industrial organization and the economics of antitrust. During her seventeen years of consulting experience, she has provided qualitative and empirical economic analyses for consulting engagements in an array of healthcare industries, including health insurance, hospitals, disability insurance, pharmaceuticals, clinical laboratories, pharmacy retailers and medical equipment, as well as a broad array of other industries, including professional sports, technology, and consumer products. Ms. Perkins has extensive experience in empirical analyses involving large, complex data and has performed econometric analyses in a number of antitrust liability and damages matters. She has conducted economic analyses and managed expert testimony for numerous mergers and acquisitions and a variety of cases concerning allegations of attempted monopolization, price fixing, bundling, exclusionary conduct, fraud and patent infringement. Prior to joining QES, Ms. Perkins was a Principal in the Antitrust and Competition practice at Charles River Associates. Ms. Perkins holds a B.A. in Economics and French, summa cum laude, from Wheaton College and a M.A. in Economics, with specialties in Industrial Organization and Comparative Economic Systems, from the University of Michigan. Paul Malherbe, Ph.D.
Principal

Dr. Malherbe specializes in microeconomics, corporate finance, and intellectual property. He has provided economic analysis in more than 50 matters in a variety of industries, including internet technology, consumer electronics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and supplies, payment cards, automobile manufacturing, and commercial transportation. Dr. Malherbe’s casework has included assessment of damages, irreparable harm, and commercial success in intellectual property litigation, asset valuation in bankruptcy proceedings, and economic analyses of collusion and market foreclosure. He has written on the assessment of patent damages and the valuation of patents using finance theory and has modeled investors and entrepreneurs’ choice among financial contracts. Prior to joining Quantitative Economic Solutions, LLC, Dr. Malherbe was an assistant professor of economics at Connecticut College. A Ph.D. graduate in economics from the University of Massachusetts, Dr. Malherbe also holds a B.A. and law degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. (Curriculum Vitae)

Amy Almeida, Ph.D.
Vice President

Dr. Almeida specializes in industrial organization, econometrics, and microeconomic theory. She has provided economic analysis in a wide variety of industries. Dr. Almeida's casework has included economic analysis and econometric modeling to estimate competitive effects of mergers and damages assessment in intellectual property and antitrust litigations and arbitrations. Prior to joining Quantitative Economic Solutions, LLC, Dr. Almeida was an associate at PHB Hagler Bailly where she modeled the North American electricity market to assess power plant valuations; and a manager at Analysis Group, Inc. where she managed intellectual property and antitrust cases. A Ph.D. graduate in Economics from Northwestern University, Dr. Almeida also holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Tufts University and a M.S. in Public Management and Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. George Simler
Senior Consultant

Mr. Simler joined QES in July 2010 and has conducted economic analysis related to intellectual property infringement. Previously, Mr. Simler worked at Chicago Partners, LLC (now a subsidiary of Navigant Consulting) for seven years where he specialized primarily in large scale data analysis for matters pertaining to antitrust and securities fraud. He has also worked for RCF Economic and Financial Consulting where he worked on an economic analysis of a transition to a hydrogen economy for the Department of Energy. He holds an M.P.P. in Public Policy from The University of Chicago, an M.S. in Physics from Texas A&M University, and A B.S. in Physics from Purdue University.

Jeffrey Boaz
Senior Analyst

Since joining QES in November 2010, Mr. Boaz has conducted economic evaluations in intellectual property and antitrust litigation. His prior experience includes economic consulting across a variety of industries related to finance and investments. He holds a B.S. in economics and applied mathematics from Brown University.

Sonali Rana
Analyst

Ms. Rana joined QES in September 2009 and has conducted research and economic data analyses pertaining to intellectual property infringement in a variety of industries. Prior to joining QES, she interned at Oxfam America and analyzed the economic feasibility of a micro-insurance project in northern Ethiopia. She holds an M.A. in Economics from Northeastern University and a B.A. in Economics from Randolph College.

Dianne Lior
Operations Manager

Ms. Lior joined QES in the summer of 2010 as Operations Manager. Prior to that, Dianne served for over two decades as the Accounting, HR and Office Manager of UniPress Software, from its inception to its acquisition by Numara Software, also serving as the RFP Project Team Leader at Numara. She attended SUNY at Stony Brook and Haifa University.
