QES, LLC applies its microeconomic expertise on a project-by-project basis. While the nature of the engagement may differ across projects, as may the industry under investigation, the commitment to rigorous theoretical and quantitative analyses based upon the fundamental principles of economics and applied mathematics remains consistent. Generally speaking, QES work product can be classified into three general categories: market simulation, statistical/econometric analysis, and strategic consulting. Often, individual engagements will involve two, or all three work products.

Market Simulation Studies

QES is called upon to perform market simulation studies across a wide variety of industries. In such studies, QES relies upon its extensive background and experience in economic modeling, including the construction of complex demand/supply relationships, extensive cost-based structures, and dynamic models of competition and product/service innovation. These models are then calibrated using industry data and relied upon to gain greater insight into the impact that various economic phenomena have or had on economic variables such as price, output, product/service quality, and innovation.

Statistical/Econometric Studies

With the advent of highly sophisticated data collection mechanisms across a wide variety of industries (e.g. scanner-based data from retail outlets), clients of QES have at their disposal large databases that offer the opportunity to study highly complex and specific economic phenomena, such as the impact of a specific promotional program on sales to a particular customer set. QES focuses on a systematic (rather than anecdotal or ad hoc) approach to synthesizing such data into meaningful work product. To this end, QES makes extensive use of cutting edge econometric and statistical tools designed to take advantage of the richness afforded by such large datasets. Few consultants have developed the requisite expertise and experience required to consistently apply these complex techniques to such extensive data. QES considers this ability to be a particular strategic strength of the firm.

Strategic Consulting

QES is also called upon to provide strategic consulting. Firms considering a licensing proposal, or a research project or venture (for example), call upon QES to help them determine the likely strategic dynamics that will govern the negotiation process itself, and the ongoing relationship that develops once a license, investment, or venture commences. QES will work directly with senior executives at various firms to help them understand and consider the complex mathematical and economic structures that govern such marketplace interactions. QES will bring to bear market simulation and statistical/econometric tools to provide firms with a well-documented and rigorous foundation with which to consider future strategic actions.
